The Georgia Emergency Management Agency 's (GEMA) mission is to provide a comprehensive and aggressive all hazards approach to homeland security initiatives, mitigation, preparedness, response, recovery and special events in order to protect life and property and prevent and/or reduce negative impacts of terrorism and natural disasters in Georgia. In conjunction with GEMA, the Putnam County Emergency Management Agency develops and maintains comprehensive plans for the same mission on a local level.

Even before the unexpected occurs, emergency management works to reduce the impact of a disaster and plan a response that will save lives and make Putnam County a safer place to live. Emergency Management helps the community assess the hazards that may affect them and develop strategies and emergency operation plans.

Sheriff Sills serves as the Director of Putnam County's Emergency Management Agency.  The agency coordinates resources during a local crisis and performs exercises to prepare for disasters.  These exercises are designed to help analyze the resources and responses in our community.
